Blitzortung’s own map warns that its data must not be used to protect people or equipment. Treat its locations and storm positions as potentially imperfect.
Operational rule
Do not use a lightning map by itself to decide whether an event should start, stop, shelter, or resume. Follow the fair’s approved lightning procedures and official National Weather Service information.
Before reporting
- Check the map time and the age of strikes.
- Compare the lightning pattern with GRLevel3 and official NWS information.
- Use an approved operational threshold and reporting chain.
- Record the source and time if the information is passed to net control or fair staff.
