Blitzortung is a community lightning-detection network. Set the map to the local region, verify the time display, and learn what the strike-age colors mean before treating a cluster as a trend.
Practice checklist
- Center the map on Dickson County and the surrounding approach area.
- Use the time-course display to compare the newest strikes with older activity.
- Watch for a repeated pattern over several updates rather than reacting to one plotted strike.
- Describe only what the map shows: recent lightning activity, approximate direction, and whether activity appears to be increasing or decreasing.
Lightning data is one signal in a larger operational picture. Compare it with radar, official alerts, and trained local observation.
